American West Coast Experimental Music

Edward Schocker explains the contemporary trends and history of West Coast American Music. This artist talk will illustrate how the West Coast (especially California) became a land where composers looked towards Asia in order to break away from European trends and create a unique style of music. This talk gives historical overview and musical examples from the likes of Henry Cowell, Harry Partch, Lou Harrison, Pauline Oliveros and up to today’s composers and performers residing on America’s West Coast.
